We stayed in Pensacola one week then moved over to Blackwater River State Park about 30 miles away. We have stayed here before during the summer one year. It is a very nice state park with full hookups so no concern about our tanks getting full. Not many state and national parks have sewer hookups. The sites are very big, lots of room for the RV and the car plus a huge area for the picnic table, a fire pit and a grill. They also have a line set up for hanging stuff to dry.
It is just a short walk to the river and they have some trails set up for walking. Have lots of pavilions along the river that you can use plus they have restrooms and showers available. It is considered one of the most pristine rivers in the nation. It is not that large of a park but is a nice place to take a break away from everything. Blackwater river has a sandy bottom and beautiful white beaches and large sandbars. The river has dark tannic water but is very clear, you can see to the bottom in most places. There are some small crescent shaped lakes called oxbows the were created when the river changed course over the years. Did not see anything but squirrels and birds while out walking.
Lots of pretty trees and one lake that has a trail around it. The lake has lots of cypress trees.
They have some nice board walks in some of the areas and they are what boardwalks should be, not those little skinny boards that we had on Isle Royale.
When we were here before we had our small kayaks with us and we spent one day floating down the river. It has a pretty swift current so you don’t really have to paddle, just use the paddle for a little steering and make sure you get out at the right point.
